Server and Application

The Big Picture

Your business lives and breaths via the applications that you use everyday. Whether those applications are stored on the cloud or on servers you physically maintain, having good up-time, security and disaster recovery are essential. Realnets brings you a full team of experts that can be applied in a variety of manors. The big picture is often lost in the midst of complex time lines and end goals. When asked we will bring you creative solutions to time intensive and costly problems.  Given the immensity of the solutions available to your business today the Realnets experience can often make you aware of options you didn’t even know existed.

Virtualization

Most deployments in the server class world today have a virtualization layer or a hyper-visor.  Two main reasons drive that. One you get more out of your hardware. Two, your ability to migrate your operating systems from platform to platform is unabated. The hardware layer does not effect the OS layer.

For the most part choosing a solution comes down to cost with secondary considerations of performance, support and DR planning. We can help you navigate those challenging questions.

Operating Systems

When we started consulting, back in 1998 we supported Windows NT, Novell 3.12, Windows 95/98 and Debian Linux. Today that list is much longer. The occasional request still comes in though to support some of these legacy systems. That’s one of the great values the Realnets team brings you. A historic understanding of how today’s technology was born from yesterdays. Quite often complex IT problems aren’t born from a fresh install of Windows Server 2016. They are created from a Active Directory environment that was created decade ago and upgraded again and again. Understanding that and the history of the operating system allows us to get to the heart of problems quickly and with a resolution in mind.

  • Windows Server – NT 4.0 / 2000 / 2008 / 2012 / 2016
  • Windows Workstation – NT 4.0 / 95 / 98 / 2000 / XP / 7 / 8 / 10
  • Linux – RHE / Red Hat / Debian / CentOS / Amazon Linux / Gentoo
  • Others – Unix / BSD

Control systems

All security at the application layer should be centrally driven. Whether we are implementing user management or logging and audit trails having a centralized method of system’s control is a must for consistent, manageable security. Realnets doesn’t simply provide you a expert in one specific area, such as domain controllers or active directory. We look at the issue holistically. We start asking questions…

Questions for you:

  • What remote monitoring and management tools are you using?
  • What is your remote logging strategy?
  • Do you verify your backups and test restoration?
  • Do your backups and logs have separate access groups?
  • How are you handling patching?
  • What visibility does management have to logging and changes to user access rights?
  • Is management being provided automated reporting on security events?
  • How are your administrative and user level groups structured?

Email

Your company’s email needs are often under served. It’s very common for companies to have not reviewed the space for years. The dependency, sensitive and legal ramifications of strategy in this space can be vast. When consulting for a client we start with questions that often times expose major holes in the existing service space.

When it comes to email services many people are moving to the cloud. Without question Microsoft 365 and Google Enterprise make up 95% of our migration and consulting work in the off premise email space. We are fully trained on both solutions and partners with both companies. Most people that come to us with existing environments on both of these solutions have not configured many of the features. Audit trail, archival and quotas are all spaces that tend to be unforgiving when events reveal they are not configured.

Day to day helpdesk services related to email can be a real time saver and have great ROI. Realnets can provide migration, endpoint setup, legal hold, away messaging, anti-spam, anti-viral and client support services on a ongoing bases.

Custom Applications

The Realnets development group routinely builds custom applications for Windows, Linux, Android and iOS. This mean our IT Services team gets called upon often to install and support software that was literately born yesterday. Lack of direction and documentation accompany most custom applications not destine for mass consumption. Our team has experience getting legacy applications and their data stores online and functional.

Backups

We always say throughout our organization and to our client that there can be no topic as important as backups. Not needed for day to day operations, they tend to be forgotten about. Simply put, failed or dysfunctional backups CANNOT be addressed after the realization you need them.

Backup strategy has tremendous ROI potential. Backup solutions can high-maintenance, high cost and when implemented wrong, cause production slow downs / downtime.  Having a seasoned partner that has awareness of the solutions available that solve problems for you in a creative way can mean big dollars saved.

Our experience has shown us that no two situations are alike when scoping a backup solution. Often several approaches are needed. The most critical questions should be answerable within the business’s risk appetite and DR plan. If those plans are limited or non-exsistant we can support the creation of those as well.

Services

The need to support a variety of software and their associated service side services could be a focal point of endless description.  The Realnets team is creative in this space. Perhaps you have a problem that causes a key service related to your Exchange server to fail 3 times a day or maybe you have a Red Hat Linux server that’s SSHd is being hammered by hackers… These are scenarios our team creates custom scripting or external monitoring reactive to your problems.

Server Security

Realnets supports systems under some of the most intensive security standards. It’s a reality that to much focus on security can often have diminishing returns and to little can actually sink the business as a whole in many cases.  Hitting a middle of the road target can mean a need for a comprehensive review of all area’s of your IT profile.  We can support you on that or if you have the need for one specific area of consulting we can provide that too.
